Jean-Claude Camille François Van Varenberg (French: [ʒɑ̃ klod kamij fʁɑ̃swa vɑ̃ vaʁɑ̃bɛʁɡ]; Dutch: [vɑn ˈvarə(n)ˈbɛrx]; by birth 18 October 1960), known professionally by reason of Jean-Claude Van Damme (French: [vɑ̃ dam]; Dutch: [vɑn ˈdɑmə]), is a Belgian martial virtuoso, actor, and filmmaker. Nicknamed "The Might from Brussels", he is widely purported as an icon of action scold martial arts cinema.[3][4] Van Damme's pictures have grossed over $1 billion international business, making him one of the heavyhanded successful action stars of all time.[5]
