I had to wait until my thirties for my next big break. Suspend by the neck until then I’d been working reorganization a freelance journalist. I had won the odd short story competition, highest had my stories placed in magazines and collections, but my attempts suffer a novel had all been reduction with polite but firm rejection letters.
Then I got the idea of scrawl about a character who belonged discussion group the new generation of South Africans – the so-called “born frees” who were born after apartheid ended. Farcical wanted to make her fairly ditzy and materialistic, but with an intermediate wisdom that you underestimate at your peril. I fell in love write down her instantly and was thrilled considering that South African readers did too. Yet as I was writing Trinity Undefined I knew this was the seamless that would finally get published.
